I'm using my PS4 controller without DS4Windows. The game itself will see it but you have to have the controller plugged in. So easiest way to have native support is turning off steam controller support and plugging in the controller. You will have the rumble and all the same things I assume that play station has that way without the added software.

I've never seen this before but the Steam overlay was disabled by default when the game was first installed. Additionally I could only get it to work when use BPM overlay was set to Forced Off. After that it's been smooth sailing. The game even supports simultaneous mouse and controller, though that's probably down to using Unreal 4.
Other times I only use ds4w. In my experience it always works if steam's controller profile override whatever doesn't work. In my case for Fallen Order on Epic/Origin, I used a ps4 controller and used DS4Windows. It's free. I even installed a mod for the button prompts to show ps4 buttons instead of xbox buttons, because I needed it haha
Also, if you prefer controller but like higher framerates and slightly better graphics, you could install playstation now on your PC which will provide you with official Sony Dualshock 4 drivers. Then you will be able to play every game thats on ps4, with your dualshock controller with all features, led changes, rumble, etc.
